Build Your Own Baby Hamper: When the Ready-Made One Is Not Quite Right
Most people who message me about building their own hamper start the same way. They have found one they like, and there is one thing in it they would change. The colour is not quite the nursery. The family already has three muslins. They want the rattle but not the bath oil. Or they know exactly what this particular baby needs and it is not what I put in the box.
That is what build your own is for. You start with an empty keepsake case, choose what goes in it, and I arrange and wrap the whole thing the same way I do every other hamper.
How it works
Start by choosing the case, because that is the part the family keeps long after everything inside has been used up.
- The Rainbow keepsake case from $34.90, which asks for at least three pieces inside.
- The Premium keepsake hamper from $49.90, which asks for at least five pieces inside.
Then you pick what goes in: muslins, blankets, comforters, rattles, teethers, soft toys, keepsakes, bath and skincare, or something from Gifts for Her if you want the mum included too. Once you have chosen, everything is arranged inside the case, wrapped by hand and finished with a complimentary card we will write your message on.
A structure that works
The hampers that arrive looking considered rather than crowded almost always follow the same shape. One everyday textile, one thing to hold, one thing to keep.
A muslin or a blanket is the piece that gets used every single day, so start there. Add something soft the baby will bond with, a comforter or a rattle. Then finish with one item that outlasts the newborn stage: an engraved brush, a keepsake, something with a name on it.
A few pieces chosen for a reason beat a full case chosen to fill space. Tired parents unpacking a box notice the difference.
When building your own is the better choice
Second and third babies. The family already owns the basics. Skip them entirely and put the whole budget into one keepsake and one genuinely nice thing for the mum.
You know the nursery. If you have seen the room, you can match it exactly instead of hoping a neutral palette lands.
Group gifts. When several people are contributing, building the hamper together is easier than everyone buying separately and turning up with three of the same wrap.
Allergies and preferences. If the family avoids fragrance or has a product they already use, you can simply leave it out rather than working around a fixed set.
Before you order
Check the product page for materials and care on anything you are unsure about, especially skincare. If you are adding a name, copy the spelling from a message rather than going from memory. Engraved orders still leave the same day when you order before 12pm, Monday to Friday. And if you cannot decide between two things, message me. I pack these every day and I am happy to tell you what actually gets used.
Frequently asked questions
How many items do I need to choose?
The Rainbow keepsake case needs at least three pieces and the Premium keepsake hamper at least five. Past that, choose what you love rather than filling every gap.
Can I build a gender-neutral hamper?
Yes. Cream, sage, beige and natural wood suit any nursery, and they are the safest choice when the family has not shared the baby's sex.
Can I add a name?
Yes. We laser-engrave the baby's name onto our wooden brush here in Brisbane. It doesn't slow your order down: order before 12pm, Monday to Friday, and it still leaves the same day.
Do you wrap it, or does it arrive as separate items?
We arrange everything inside the case and wrap it by hand. It arrives ready to give.
